The Other

“You can never escape the Other” Freud. Other people shape our lives, from the moment we’re born to the day we die.

That’s why this sings to the heart. Or the live version. IMHO the best lovesong ever. EVER

“I don’t believe in an interventionist God
But I know, darling, that you do
But if I did I would kneel down and ask Him
Not to intervene when it came to you
Not to touch a hair on your head
To leave you as you are
And if He felt He had to direct you
Then direct you into my arms”

Damn straight it’s the best love song ever, nice call. Followed very very closely by this song:

This is like a lesson in philosophy class all over again. Yes, it seems that the “other” manifests itself everywhere. However, what we can do is to strengthen our own beliefs and our own values so we won’t get too lost with what the “other” has to say. By the way, the lyrics are great and I don’t think I’ve ever heard this song before. I might check it out on soon.

A good point illustrated with a very well chosen song.
I remember holding my newly born daughter, Lucy, in my arms in Oct. 99 as my wife was wheeled away to an operating theatre, frightened out of my wits, singing Nick Cave’s “Lucy” to her to keep calm.
Other people shape our lives. Every day. Every day.
